Our History.
Arrowhead Neurosurgical Medical Group was founded in 1998 by Dr. Javed Siddiqi, two years after he arrived in Southern California. After recruiting the initial faculty neurosurgeons, Dr. Siddiqi laid the foundation for the neurosurgery residency program at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. In collaboration with Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, CA, and the AOA educational consortium OPTI-West, ARMC received American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accreditation for the neurosurgery residency program in 1999. With this AOA accreditation, Dr. Siddiqi, as the founding residency program director, became the first ever allopathic physician (MD) to achieve this honor in the one hundred plus years of AOA's existence. As ANMG expanded throughout the Inland Empire and Coachella Valley, the neurosurgery residency program also expanded to other hospitals including Riverside County Regional Medical Center (now Riverside University Health System Medical Center-RUHS), Kaiser Permanente Fontana, Redlands Community Hospital, and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center (ARMC). The expansion of ANMG into several hospitals also resulted in the evolution of ANMG into a multi-specialty group to meet the continuing needs of our patients and the residency program.
In 2003, With Dr. Siddiqi as the Chief of Neurosurgery at both ARMC and RUHS, the ARMC neurosurgery residency program was formally approved by AOA as a joint program between the two hospitals. Dr. Siddiqi remained program director until 2015, when he stepped down and named Dr. Dan Miulli as his successor. As plans for transition of the residency program from AOA-accreditation to ACGME-accreditation began in 2015, RUHS became the sole primary site of the program, while residents continued to rotate through the other hospitals. The RUHS neurosurgery residency received ACGME accreditation in 2018.
In 2005, ANMG was invited to build academic neurosurgery practice at Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC) in Palm Springs, CA. With expansion of the faculty to include DRMC, the ARMC/RUHS residents followed through 2015, with a considerable portion of their training occurring there. As DRMC began launching their own Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs in 2015, Dr. Siddiqi and ANMG led the way with the formation of a distinct AOA accredited neurosurgery residency program, as well as an AOA accredited neurology residency program. This gave Dr. Siddiqi and ANMG the distinct honor of having become the only founder of two neurosurgery residency programs in the United States, as well as a pivotal role in development of a neurology residency program. With the need to provide for the ever-expanding populations of the Inland Empire and Coachella Valleys, ANMG has expanded its clinician base to include general neurosurgeons, specialized neurosurgeons, neurointerventionalists, and neurologists. The DRMC neurosurgery residency program transitioned to ARMC in 2023 and will train out it's residents by 2026, with plans to re-apply for an ACGME neurosurgery residency at ARMC immediately afterwards.
With a focus on expert patient care and delivering quality results for our patients and communities, the combination of academic instruction, research, and community service has allowed ANMG to become one of the largest and most successful practices in Southern California.

Today.
As of 2024, ANMG has over 20 neurosurgeons, neurologists, and physician extenders, each with their own subspecialty interests, all serving the Inland Empire and Coachella Valley. All help in the training of the next generation of neurosurgeons. Currently, ANMG staff are mentoring 19 neurosurgery residents between the two programs. One hundred percent of ANMG neurosurgery graduates of their 7-year programs have gone on to subspecialty training, with approximately 30% remaining in our local region of Southern California to serve communities near where they have trained.
Our focus continues to be the delivery of the best standards of care to our patients, understanding that through mentorship, instruction, and continuous self-learning we are able to deliver world-class academic standards of neurosurgery to our community without having to travel to Los Angeles, San Diego, or San Francisco. We continue to invest in our community hospitals with development of neurological centers of excellence in spine care, stroke care, and neuro-oncology just to name a few. We maintain staff privileges at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, Riverside University Health Science Medical Center, Redlands Community Hospital, Desert Regional Medical Center, and Eisenhower Medical Center.
Dr. Siddiqi has served as President of the California Association of Neurological Surgeons (CANS) 2021-2022. We continue to maintain the Arrowhead Neuroscience Foundation (ANF), a 501c3 non-profit organization committed to education and research in pursuit of cures for common but devastating conditions that alter brain and spine function.
Also in January 2020, Redlands Community Hospital opened the regions first and only hybrid angiography-operative suite with specialization for neurosurgical procedures. ANMG physicians were pivotal in the acquisition of this state-of-the-art suite and utilize it regularly.

Tomorrow...
Despite being considered part of the greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area, the Inland Empire with the Coachella Valley is a major metropolis in its own right. Our communities deserve world-class academic neurosurgical care without the need to travel far distances. ANMG will continue to lead the way in serving our patients with dignity, respect, and the highest quality care possible. We plan to continue expansion of services with specialized neurosurgical care, especially at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and Eisenhower Medical Center. We are working with California University School of Medicine to create a world class neuroscience teaching program. Focus on bringing minimally-invasive spinal surgery (MISS), expansion of stroke centers, comprehensive brain tumor surgery and neuro-oncology, and surgical treatment of chronic pain conditions to our region are just a part of our immediate expansion programs. We will continue to invest in our communities with community-based research and community outreach. We will continue to instruct our neurosurgeons of the future, with the hopes they pursue fulfilling careers, both locally and internationally.
